KAWAC Story
- Who we serve:
African, Caribbean, and Black (ACB) communities in Canada– navigating systemic barriers in healthcare, education, and economic inclusion. - What they face:
ACB communities often experience:
- Poverty traps are fueled by a lack of access to healthcare, stigma, and systemic inequities.
- Educational barriers that limit opportunities for children and youth to thrive.
- Social exclusion prevents families from fully participating in Canada’s social and economic fabric.
Who we are:
We began as KENWA Canada, an extension of the Kenya Network of Women with AIDS (KENWA), which ran a clinic and children’s home in Kenya. Recognizing that poverty and education are deeply intertwined with health and empowerment, we expanded into KAWAC—a network committed to addressing these same issues among ACB communities in Canada.

What’s at risk
If we don’t act, cycles of poverty, exclusion, and limited opportunity will continue to hold back ACB families—affecting not only them, but Canada’s collective prosperity.
Our Collective Success:
With KAWAC, ACB families gain access to healthcare, education, and opportunity. Children are empowered to dream and achieve, parents are supported in building stability, and communities thrive with dignity, inclusion, and economic empowerment.
